Interfleet are a global leader in rail consultancy, specialising in rolling stock, infrastructure, rail control systems and strategic transport advisory services.

With the organisation’s aspirational growth targets, Ford & Stanley were engaged as a master vendor partner to deliver an innovative recruitment solution to:

The range of roles to recruit spanned an array of specialist disciplines, from safety management and assurance, business consulting, systems engineering and account management to the formation of brand new rolling stock turnkey teams.

 

Our approach

Op discoveryFord & Stanley were tasked with filling positions at all levels across three key business areas of Interfleet, with the objective to achieve a significant increase in head count over an 18 month period.

A team of specialists with in depth expertise in each of the recruiting fields were assigned to commence the opportunity discovery process. This process seeks to assess the business need, defining key deliverables and establishing the key motivators aligned to each opportunity. Our consultants therefore developed a comprehensive understanding of the roles to recruit; equally this also formed a critical part in defining the employer brand and establishing techniques to effectively promote Interfleet within the market.

It was requested that full salary benchmarking and talent mapping exercises were undertaken, reporting on compensation and benefits currently offered within the industry as well as key geographical areas to locate and source talent. As a result of this report, Interfleet were able to realign their offering to become more competitive within the market.

An initial meeting was scheduled with key stakeholders within Interfleet’s HR team to formalise the recruitment process and ensure alignment with existing systems, policies and procedures. At this stage Ford & Stanley were assigned primary responsibility for the management of the recruitment process, from receipt of CVs to presenting feedback at both a client and candidate level. 

 

Introduction of RecruitPeople™

RecruitPeople™, a bespoke master vendor software and online portal was implemented to manage the recruitment process and unite HR, Line Manager and supply chain in one central system. Tailored to the organisational requirements, this was integrated with Interfleet’s existing HR software, enabling online job ordering functionality and ease of access. 

 

Enhancing the employer brand

Ford & Stanley assisted Interfleet in effectively promoting its employer brand through development of an Employer Value Proposition (EVP).

All UK staff were given the opportunity to voice their views and experiences about the company which was shared with potential candidates as a critical part of the recruitment process. The EVP video and report sat at the forefront of the recruitment portal to effectively promote the organisation’s culture, benefits and opportunities.

 

Delivering a first class recruitment process

Communication was a key factor for success, with weekly on site meetings, regular reviews with the UK Senior Management team and direct access to Hiring Managers all playing a key role in Ford & Stanley’s ability to deliver. Inevitably Ford & Stanley became an extension of the Interfleet brand, working side by side with the existing HR team and fostering close relationships with Hiring Managers to attract and secure the best talent.

As an additional value added service, Ford & Stanley provided a 24/7 ‘on call’ presence across all of Interfleet’s UK locations covering Derby, London and Edinburgh. 

 

Training and development

One-to-one training was delivered to HR representatives on the use of the RecruitPeople™ system. This facilitated further training to be rolled out across the organisation for effective use of the portal.

Group workshops were hosted by Ford & Stanley to upskill Recruiting Managers in competency based interviewing techniques, enhancing their ability to ask the most appropriate questions during interview.
