Ford & Stanley- The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Health and Safety Course Trainer with a Construction focus for a specialist College of advanced technology in Essex. 

The Opportunity

This role requires an individual who can plan, prepare and deliver courses that meet College and Professional Body standards for teaching, learning and assessment. This specialist College has been established to meet the workforce development needs of businesses which operate in critical UK sectors which the economy relies on. This includes advanced apprenticeships to secure a pipeline of new talent, higher and degree apprenticeships to support advanced engineering capability and bespoke training solutions to develop the skills and expertise of existing workforces.

Role and Responsibility

  • Reporting to the Head of Commercial CPD to deliver the agreed targets of the team
  • Plan, prepare and successfully deliver courses that meet the required College standards for teaching, learning and assessment
  • Develop and produce course material for learning activities to ensure delegates are appropriately engaged, supported and able to succeed
  • Deliver high customer satisfaction rates
  • Lead and champion Health and Safety at your campus base
  • Offer targeted support when needed whilst monitoring and evaluating delegates
  • Ensure retention and pass rates remain above the national and College average
  • Deliver high customer satisfaction rates (above 90%) and net promoter scores (above 85%)
  • Produce high quality course material and learning aids
  • Ensure you are familiar and compliant with Risk Assessments relevant to your department


The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, able to work under pressure and to deadlines, have a high attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills. They must embody the Colleges core values of Professionalism, Equality, Integrity and Accountability and have a willingness to engage in continuous professional development.


  • A minimum of DET’s or a willingness to commence this training in the first year
  • Knowledge and experience of Gantry Crane Operations, Concrete Pumping or similar
  • Able to present to groups in an engaging and informative manner
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively and confidentially whilst following policies and procedures
  • Good telephone manner and attention to internal and external customer care
  • Able to communicate with customers at all levels both verbally and in writing
  • Self-motivated, organised, high attention to detail and able to use own initiative


  • Level 2 NVQ Tunnelling Operation or Level 4 NVQ Site Supervision- Tunnelling
  • Oneof the following:
  • NEBOSH- National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety
  • NVQ/SVQ Level 5 in Occupational Health and Safety
  • A Health and Safety degree
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Part 2/ NEBOSH units A,B,C and D
  • DipSM Level 6
  • Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
  • Computer related qualifications
  • An Assessor and/or IV qualification or a willingness to undertake
  • An ability to show initiative in developing and maintaining systems
  • Competent use of database systems to record, analyse data and provide reports
