£60,000 - £65,000 per annum

Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Specialists are working with a prestigious and innovative rail business who are a provider of software products for railway operations and signalling systems. 

We are looking for a forward thinking and passionate Programme Manager who will be working on future technology products and be involved with the improvement of the UK’s railway network and play a pivotal part in the development and delivery of products and projects that will make rail travel more efficient for future generations.  

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Operations Manager, tasks shall include but not be limited to: 

  • Line management, including performance reviews and career development, of Project Managers, Project Support and additional staff assigned as direct reports
  • Assigning, monitoring, leading and mentoring project management and project support staff within the operations department
  • Ensuring effective and timely reporting of project status (both internal and external)
  • Ensuring effective and transparent risk management on projects
  • Escalation of issues where necessary to Senior Management
  • Driving continuous improvement to operations processes
  • Holding projects to account including quality, risk, issue, schedule, technical and financial performance
  • Timely and appropriate reporting / escalation of issues and risks
  • Release of resource to support Sales activities or as needed in pursuant of agreed business objectives 

Qualifications and experience 

  • Requires proven experience as a Programme Manager, working within a busy Project Management Office, or as a Senior Project Manager running a number of projects in parallel
  • Resilience and self-reliance. This role requires a leader who is a self-starter and confident in their own abilities
  • Excellent communication skills
  • People management skills including line management of teams in excess of 10
  • Commercial acumen, project level financial management and budget control
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Project, Office Suite and Excel
  • In-depth understanding of Project lifecycles
  • Experience of working in highly regulated industries, ideally rail although candidates with experience in similar industries such as oil and gas, or aerospace will also be considered
