Ford and Stanley - the Rail Recruitment Specialists are working with a leading rail engineering business to recruit a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineering to technically define, develop and lead the mechanical design and integration for engineering projects and tenders.

The Opportunity

The role of Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer is to technically define, develop and lead the mechanical design and integration for rail engineering projects and tenders. With whole design lifecycle responsibility, from ensuring a complete and correct set of requirements are established to developing valid mechanical  architectures and concepts that are fully integrated in order to deliver a class leading, competitive and compliant design

Role and Responsibilities

  • Follow-up / update of the performance calculations
  • Develop system concepts, update of Technical requirement documents and functional analyses
  • Define, manage and follow-up all system interfaces
  • Prepare and lead design reviews with the supplier, with other departments and with the customer
  • Follow-up of system design and development with the supplier
  • Participate to the creation of FMECA’s
  • Creation of Scopes of supply
  • Follow-up engineering planning and anticipate potential delays / roadblocks
  • Follow-up Open item list actions
  • Review of supplier deliverables / documents
  • Analysis and evaluation of the customer specifications, standards and regulations
  • Perform system performance calculations
  • Write Technical requirement documents and functional analyses
  • Define the system concept and write technical descriptions
  • Write contractual technical documents (Clause-by-clause)
  • Estimate technical risks and define mitigation plans
  • Participate in the creation of leadership documents (work content, workload and planning)
  • Evaluate technical offers from and select suppliers
  • Prepare and lead design reviews with the supplier, with other departments and with the customer

The Candidate

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering, or equivalent is mandatory for this role;
  • Specialized knowledge in at least one of the following areas: integration/installations, pneumatics, fluids, heat transfer, material science, electrics / electronics is essential;
  • System Architectural understanding is also mandatory for this role;
  • Some experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements is highly desirable;
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to use this technical knowledge in the support of other departments (engineering, production, procurement, projects) and the development of less experienced engineering personnel;
