16 October 2017

Friday 13th can be seen as unlucky for some, but this October saw our annual company away day and overnight stay at the Belfry Resort in the West Midlands and the unpredictable British weather stayed perfect for our indoor / outdoor activities.

_dsc2456.jpg.608x304_0_25_4119The First by Choice event celebrated the company’s excellent half-year results and gave everyone in the team the chance to decide what they want the company to focus on, to continue our success in 2018 and to make Ford & Stanley an even better place to work.

With the business out of the way, Daniel Taylor set the tone for the rest of the day with the first of two excellent team challenges he’d devised. A timed exercise saw the five teams battle it out to build the tallest, most robust structure capable of supporting a can of coke using very random and flimsy materials!

A gorgeous buffet lunch in the Ryder Grill re-energised all for the afternoon activities – a brilliantly planned treasure hunt throughout the grounds of The Belfry. The task saw everyone’s competitive side shine through; the mental horsepower and teamwork on show was incredible. Team ‘Marginal Gains’ (Charlie May, Oliver Nunn, Danielle Peach & Peter Schofield) won the treasure hunt and were awarded a “Best Teamwork” trophy along with a huge hamper of champagne and chocolate treats – which of course they shared with the rest of the teams.

Downtime now on the cards, the team checked into their rooms, with some opting to visit the onsite Spa and others electing to make the most of the world-class golfing facility.

IMG_2619Everyone then got together in the evening for a champagne drinks reception, a 3-course meal, followed by a bizarre Pub Quiz won by Team ‘Nautilus’ (Emma Watkins, Chris Jones, Nick Nunn & Liam Slater).

The evening concluded with plenty of singing and dancing into the early hours at the onsite nightclub, Bel Air.

Needless to say there were some bleary eyes and a few sore heads at the breakfast table; but a small price to pay for what was an outstanding team event.

Bring on 2018 !!
