CAD Support Engineer (Nottingham)

£45,000 per annum

Ford & Stanley – The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting on behalf of a major rail corporation based in Nottingham for a Fixed Term Contract - CAD Support Engineer.

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced CAD Professional to gain first hand knowledge and experience in a busy engineering function within the rail domain. Your expertise will be used to support the day to day CAD application and upgrades which are essential in allowing the engineering team to run coherently.

You will work closely in collaboration with well-respected engineers within the business to create innovate solutions to engineering matters.

Please note: The role is initially looking to cover a 12-month period, with a view to go permanent.



Role and Responsibilities

  • Creo upgrade from version 17 to version 20
  • Windows 10 – transition for users and CAD interface (Creo and NX12)
  • NX12 roll out, licence bundles and the BAT file
  • Creo Macro’s – menus in Creo need tidying and possibly site-specific bundles of macros to limit the number loaded at start up
  • Macro library needs backing up – managing – so that macros can be ‘signed off’ as accurate and bug free before they go into the live system.
  • BIM and ERP implications of NX12 move
  • Model storage / cleanse of directories
  • Handling rules for part families etc – set out in new CAD manual, but users not yet proficient
  • Preparing User manuals
  • Documentation of workflow
  • Documentation of system interfaces
  • Complete assigned tasks with limited direct supervision
  • Travel to both domestic and international locations
  • Manage drawing border libraries – updates to templates for any consultancy projects etc
  • Plotter interfaces, pen configurations, folder access rights and drivers etc

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will need to have a background and expertise within CAD software applications. As a predominant portion of your role will be to work with engineers, good communication as well as a “can-do” attitude is essential to ensure results and project deadlines are achieved within the set timescales. In addition to this, you will be joining a vibrant and close-knit team, so the ability to be flexible and adapt to a new working environment quickly and easily will benefit you and the team dynamics.

  • Bentley Microstation knowledge and experience
  • CAD Application troubleshooting
