The Opportunity

I’m working with a leading telecoms company who have recently won a major project worth £26m who want to introduce to the UK an innovative idea to design, install and commission the first train to track communication system. The candidate will be working independently at the Scunthorpe site with the responsibility for the commercial delivery of a number of projects with high profile clients.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop commercial strategies to support bid opportunities into customers, review proposed contract terms and lead on customer contractual negotiations

  • Understanding differing standard forms of contracts used for engineering, transportation and telecoms projects, and dealing with key provisions including the rights, obligations and liabilities of the parties.
  • Being the customer’s commercial interface and therefore the company maintains a strong customer relationship.
  • Support the delivery team to ensure projects financial and commercial control with the production of profit and loss, cash flow, KPI’s and cost to complete statements.
  • Leading ongoing liaison with Operations and Finance to monitor WIP and identify, report and redress cost variances.
  • Providing accurate and timely reports and management information to the project team and senior management on current contracts.
  • The production and timely updating of project risk registers which incorporate cost reduction initiatives and manages the outcomes such that all opportunities and risks are adequately covered.
  • Leading the management of contractual disputes and securing resolution of matters that fall within delegated authority.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate must have experience working in the rail sector as a Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager and have the responsibility to act and operate independently. It’s essential that they demonstrate the ability to successfully build and maintain client relationships, and understand differing standard forms of contracts used for engineering, transportation and telecoms projects.

Essentials

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Commercial Manager/Quantity Surveyor in the rail sector.
  • Must understand the Network Rail framework agreement
  • Relevant University Degree with functionally focused, deep technological expertise
  • Strong command of the English language.

Desirable

  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software
  • Full membership of a recognised Professional institution.
