Commercial Manager (Coulsdon)

£300 - £450 per day

Are you an experienced Commercial Manager or Quantity Surveyor who can manage a variety of contracts for London based Rail Telecoms projects?

Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Commercial Manager to join an established business who have several large Rail projects in the UK. To fulfill this work, they need a highly organised and efficient Commercial Manager/ Quantity Surveyor who is able to quickly build relationships with major clients and suppliers. 

The Opportunity



Contract Length

Initial 3 month contract, potential to extend.


  • Develop commercial strategies to support bid opportunities into customers, review proposed contract terms and lead on customer contractual negotiations
  • The determination of project risk through interpretation of the contract documents.
  • Understand differing standard forms of contracts used for engineering, transportation and telecoms projects, to deal with key provisions including the rights, obligations and liabilities of the parties.
  • Understand the customers business requirements and ensure contractual arrangements meet the needs of the customer.
  • Be the customer’s commercial interface and therefore ensuring the maintenance a strong customer relationship.
  • Implementing policies/procedures to improve any sub-standard customer satisfaction and prevent reoccurrence.
  • Support the delivery team to ensure projects financial and commercial control with the production of profit and loss, cash flow, KPI’s and cost to complete statements.
  • Lead ongoing liaison with Operations and Finance to monitor WIP and identify, report and redress cost variances.
  • Provide accurate and timely reports and management information to the project team and senior management on the project.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative and internal policies and ensure all contract processes are diligently followed.
  • Produce timely updates of project risk registers which incorporate cost reduction initiatives and manage the outcomes such that all opportunities and risks are adequately covered.
  • Regularly check that robust procedures are in place to capture Variations, Claims and Compensation Events.
  • Contract administration including providing advice on contractual matters and formulating contractual/legal correspondence.
  • Lead the management of contractual disputes and secure resolution of matters that fall within delegated authority.
  • Ensure that all contract interim and final accounts are produced and agreed within the contractual timescales and include all required details.

The Candidate

Experience required

  • Relevant University Degree with functionally focused, deep technological expertise
  • 8 to 12 years of relevant experience as a Commercial Manager/ Quantity Surveyor
  • Strong understanding and ability to work with NEC contracts.
  • Experience working alongside Network Rail
  • Full membership of a recognised Professional institution.
  • The proven experience and ability to deliver the Commercial Manager role as detailed above
  • Ability to successfully build and maintain client relationships
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software
  • Have the ability to adopt a pragmatic, yet disciplined approach to process compliance.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software
