On 15th April, our Client Services Manager, Holly Chaplin joined her fellow Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum (DDRF) representatives to travel to London aboard a special train honoured by East Midlands Trains, to visit the House of Commons. The travel down to London gave members the chance to network and share their ideas on the rail industry within Derbyshire.

The representatives were welcomed into the Stranger's Dining Room at the House of Commons for a Parliamentary Reception for the DDRF, hosted by Mid Derbyshire MP Pauline Latham OBE. The keynote speech was given by Transport Minister Stephen Hammond MP on behalf of Secretary of State Patrick McLoughlin, in which he re-emphasised the importance of the railways to the UK and the contribution that DDRF members make to the economy of the East Midlands.

Key figures including local MPs, Parliamentarians and Department for Transport also attended the event, were all eager to see what the world's largest rail cluster can do for the UK’s rail industry.

DDRF Deputy Chairman, Michelle Craven-Faulkner said "The event was a great success and brought Derby's rail industry to the Mother of Parliaments. Members and guests said how much they enjoyed it and have asked that we consider making it an annual event. We would very much like to thank Pauline Latham MP for hosting the event and all our local MPs to turning up to meet with our members and their constituents."

Holly spoke of the event “It was an honour to attend this event and be surrounded by so many influential people from the rail industry. It was an intimate event that brought everyone together; even those with awfully busy work schedules.”

She added “We were given the opportunity to interact with the other members that shared one common purpose – to promote the rail cluster in Derby and demonstrate the true camaraderie between the businesses based in the region. It was obvious to see that everyone who attended was truly passionate about promoting the DDRF and it certainly gave Ford & Stanley the perfect platform to take our rail recruitment offering to the next level.”

The Derby and Derbyshire Rail Forum is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and represents over 100 rail related businesses in the East Midlands. We would like to thank the DDRF for their kind invitation to this event and to wish them a happy 20th birthday!
