Inspiring young people into engineering

7 June 2016

Ford & Stanley have joined forces with leading employers such as Bombardier, Porterbrook and Rolls Royce to raise the profile of engineering as a career of choice amongst young people.

Supporting the Enterprise for Education (E4E), Ford & Stanley’s Customer Focus Manager, Lynsey Buxton, has been visiting local schools, colleges and universities to positively promote rail as an industry of choice. Speaking about her 10 year career within rail, talks have been focused around how to get into the industry and what opportunities young people can be exposed to as a result.

Most recently Ford & Stanley and representatives from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) delivered a CV writing workshop to end of year students at the Chellaston Academy, Derby. The workshop focused on how to format and professionally present your CV, the skills and qualities that employers actively look for and how to apply your existing skills and experience to a prospective role.

As a result, 95.4% of students felt that they could better present themselves to an employer and 80.8% of students felt ‘good’ about CV writing following the delivery of the workshop. Over 75% of students felt that their CV was good enough to show to a potential employer.
